Favorite Dive Spots
by Various Divers
A list of favorite dive spots, organized by person.
John Pennekamp State Park in the Keys
A sentimental favorite, because I first fell in love with reefs in the Keys. Also, in between dives you can rent a kayak and explore the very different, but equally wonderful world of Florida Bay on the Gulf side. Not to mention heading down to Key West to visit the folks at Reef Relief and experience all the other joys of Cayo Hueso.
Manado, Sulawesi, Indonesia
Unbelievable wall dive!
Heron Island, GBR, Australia
Spectacular night diving, great snorkeling right off the beach, and, if you go at the right time of year (I was there in November) you can see green sea turtles laying eggs on the beach at night.
Anywhere in Bonaire!
Love the room-and-dive package that allows you to dive whenever you want. One minute I was sitting in my hotel room and it occurred to me that I felt like going for a dive. A few minutes later I had a tank on my back and was giant striding to another adventure on the really superb reef. That's the way to do it!
Lots of places in Hawaii
Relatively easy to get to, a chance to see the fish with the longest name in the world, [You'll have to check and found out the Hawaiian name, but in English it's the Picasso triggerfish, I think the Hawaiian is hu-mu hu-mu nu-ku nu-ku a pu-a-'a], and easy daytrips to active volcanos (on the Big Island) or rainforests (Maui).
Bonaire (Pink and Red Slave, Habitat's house reef)
Lombok (Indonesia)
Great Barrier Reef
Dry Tortugas (in the Florida Keys, a sentimental favorite of mine)
Moorea (French Polynesia)
Komodo, Indonesia
Galapagos
Palau
Fiji
Maldives
Ebo Reef, Klien Bonaire
There isn't a bad dive on Klien, but this one I got to spend time with a sleeping turtle!
Oil Slick Leap, Bonaire
It's all about the entry!
Trinity Caves, Grand Cayman
Incredible dive through formations with Black Coral not to mention the encounter with a spotted Eagle Ray that then inspired the painting.
DePalm Slope, Aruba
Encountered an eel, very large, very old auditioning for Hollywood, spent over twenty minutes free swimming with divers along the reef.
Small Wall
Curacoa, had a blast with the dive master...oh the things he found!
Lawade, Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea
Wreck of the Ann, Russell Islands, Solomon Islands
Browning Wall, Port Hardy, British Columbia
Wakatobi House Reef, Tukang Besi, Sulawesi, Indonesia
Karumolun, Russell Islands, Solomon Islands
Rock Islands, Palau
Galapagos, Ecuador
Amazing for the big animals!
Namena, Fiji
Absolutely stunning and colorful.
Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles
So easy and beautiful!
Palakir Pass, Pohnpei
Saw a school of over 40 grey reef sharks, rays, barracudas, and the most amazing coral garden.
Indonesia (Lembeh/Bunaken), Wakatobi
Solomon Islands
Galapagos Islands
Thailand (Similan Islands)
Fiji (north off Viti Levu)
